    Residential energy prices have surged 63% in the last 10 years, which is bad enough, but the real problem is that energy costs now take up <\/span>26% more<\/span><\/a> of the average Australian household budget than they did in 2010.<\/span><\/p>\n

    But it isn\u2019t all bad news. There are things about the energy industry boom that you can use to your advantage (<\/span>if you know what you\u2019re doing<\/span><\/i>).<\/span><\/p>\n

    For instance, in the last ten years the number of registered residential energy companies in Australia has almost doubled, going from 19 to 37 – and they all want <\/span>your<\/span><\/i> business!<\/span><\/p>\n

    It\u2019s actually a lot easier to switch your energy plan than most people think.       Now, we could give you the usual tips here about \u2018rugging-up\u2019 instead of turning on the heater (<\/span>brilliant, right? If you\u2019re cold, just put a jumper on!<\/span><\/i>) but instead we thought we\u2019d give you a few tips on how to make some more permanent climate control changes in your home. <\/span><\/p>\n

      First things first: there\u2019s no point warming or cooling your home if all that lovely air-conditioned goodness is going to escape through every nook and cranny it can find. Insulation and draft-proofing ensures that every cent you spend will stay within the walls of your home. <\/span><\/p>\n

      Another option to look into is a split system air-conditioning, which is by far the most cost-effective option. If you live in a rental property this might seem out of your reach, but if you\u2019re a long term renter, it\u2019s still worth raising with your landlord. However, if your only option is using a plug-in heater, make sure you buy the <\/span>right size<\/span><\/a> to heat your space for the most energy <\/span>and<\/span><\/i> cost efficient results. <\/span><\/p>\n
